Head of Content
About Mayday
We're an accounting-tech startup building automation and AI to eliminate the tedious manual spreadsheet-based work that haunts in-house finance teams every single month. We serve the mid-market end of SMB: in-house finance teams of 2–10 people. Our mission is to mend month end and enable real-time accounting.
We recently passed £1m ARR and are growing fast after four years in market, doubling our revenue in 2025. We’re in a phenomenal position as category leaders — evidenced by our strategic partnership with Xero and winning Xero’s Global People’s Choice Award, ahead of 1,200+ connected solutions. Our team spans the UK, Australia and South Africa, with the UK and Australia as our largest markets and North America now opened up as a growth focus.
We’re founded by experienced entrepreneurs in David Tuck (ex-CFO and founder of Chaser) and James Scott-Griffin (former CTO at Idio/Optimizely and Rungway). Backed by elite investors, we’re doubling the team to 24 as we accelerate the next phase of growth.
The Role
Reporting into David, our CEO, you’ll be a founding member of our marketing team. You’ll work closely with Emily, our Events & Partnerships Manager, as well as the Head of Growth we’re also hiring for.
Content sits at the heart of Mayday’s go-to-market strategy.
The current centrepiece of our go-to-market engine is CFO Techstack — a fast-growing community built to answer two core questions for in-house finance teams:
1. How do you build a best-in-class finance tech stack around an SMB accounting system (primarily Xero and QuickBooks Online)?
2. Whether — and when — you actually need to move to an ERP.
Since launching in September 2023, CFO Techstack has grown to 5,000+ members who sit squarely in our ICP, and has become a major source of credibility and demand for Mayday.
We already have strong content momentum:
- A weekly newsletter with a 44% open rate
- Deep, opinionated pillar content, including our recently released State of the Stack report, headlined and sponsored by Xero
We’ve struck gold in terms of insight, audience and credibility. Now we need a Head of Content to mine it properly — turning community insight into a high-quality, multi-format content engine that compounds over time. That content needs to drive awareness and education, whilst also driving conversion and revenue for Mayday.
What you’ll be responsible for:
This role owns Mayday’s content strategy end-to-end: from insight discovery through to production, distribution and long-term leverage.
Turn insight into a content engine
- Translate CFO Techstack community insight into clear, opinionated narratives for in-house finance teams
- Leverage events, both our own and industry trade shows, as sources of content
- Own the editorial direction and evolution of the weekly CFO Techstack newsletter
- Lead the creation of pillar content that reinforces Mayday’s category leadership
Scale content across formats
- Develop and ship high-quality:
- White papers
- Ebooks
- Reports
- Podcasts
- Video content
- Ensure content is designed to travel across channels: community, email, website, paid distribution and partnerships
Build leverage and longevity
- Create content that compounds — reusable, referencable and structurally valuable for SEO / GEO and demand generation
- Work closely with our Head of Growth to ensure content supports acquisition, activation and conversion
- Collaborate with product and founders to surface sharp points of view on accounting tech, finance operations and ERP decisions
It’s anticipated that 80% of the content you produce in this role will be under the CFO Techstack banner. There will also be Mayday content (e.g. case studies, blog posts about awards and product launches).
About You
- Deep experience in the accounting / finance domain, with strong first-order instincts for what actually matters to finance teams. This is not a generic content marketing role. It’s for someone who understands the domain deeply enough to lead the narrative, not just package it.
- A natural storyteller with a point of view, able to turn insight into clear, opinionated narratives
- Comfortable owning content end-to-end — from idea generation and editorial direction to hands-on creation
- Excited by building content across formats: reports, white papers, ebooks, newsletters, podcasts and video
- A genuine people person, confident working with community members, customers and partners to unlock user-generated content and real-world insight
- Strong writer and editor, able to adapt tone and depth for different audiences and channels
- Commercially minded, working closely with our Head of Growth to ensure content drives demand, credibility and conversion
- Organised and disciplined, able to turn a constant stream of insight into a repeatable, scalable content engine
The Details
- Salary £70-100k depending on skills and experience;
- Share options from day 1;
- 25 days’ paid holiday, plus public holidays;
- 1-2 days a week (including Fridays) in person in Central London. We will provide co-working membership for the remaining days if needed;
- Opportunity to travel to Australia and North America at least once a year
- The global nature of the team plus time differences mean that some degree of early morning or evening calls is unavoidable. We will make sure the weight of those is borne evenly between you and the relevant Australian / South African team members.
