Careers at Mayday

Mayday is a young accounting-tech startup building automation solutions for accounting processes. It was founded by two experienced entrepreneurs: David Tuck, an accountant by training who founded Chaser; and James Griffin, a software engineer who was CTO at Idio (now Optimizely) and Rungway.

Mayday has secured pre-seed investment from impressive backers, and has proven traction in the UK and Australia. David has spoken extensively about our journey on his blog, Starting Up Again.

First Commercial Hire

Mayday has been live for 9 months. Our ideal customer is a 2-5 person in house finance team. We have core product market fit with our first product, Mayday Recharger. We have an exciting roadmap of additional products we will be releasing in 2023, as set out in our public product vision. We now need to build our go to market machine.

We are looking for someone to join as our first Commercial hire. You will work alongside and report directly to the CEO. This role is as broad as they come. You will be instrumental in testing and refining the go to market channels that are going to work for us: e.g. (but absolutely not exclusive to) outbound, PPC and webinars with partners. This role will encompass marketing, sales, customer success, support and operations. There are so many possibilities for where you take it as we grow.

Mayday is based in London, and the role is open to remote candidates in the UK, with an expectation that we will meet in person at least once a month. You will receive a new laptop, get 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), and be enrolled into our stock options scheme. Salary is from £30-75k pa depending on experience.

To apply, send your CV to careers@getmayday.com

Software Engineer

Mayday is built using the following technologies:

  • Spring Boot, using Java & Groovy

  • MySQL

  • React, using Typescript

  • AWS

We are looking for someone with skills in at least two of those, who is willing to learn the others and share the burden until the team can expand further. Some commercial experience, preferably with a startup, would be ideal, but otherwise we are open to speaking with people of all experience levels.

You will work alongside and report directly to the CTO. Our goal during these early stages is to get useful and well-built products into our customers’ hands as early as possible, so our job as engineers is to find pragmatic solutions which allow us to learn as much as we can, as soon as we can. You can expect to discuss solutions collaboratively, make quick decisions as a team, and then be given the space to build.
