Founder Associate – Mayday

About Mayday

We’re an accounting-tech startup building automation to save finance teams from the pain of manual work. We’re hyper ambitious with a huge long term vision. We will mend month-end and enable real-time accounting.

We’re founded by two experienced entrepreneurs: David Tuck, an accountant then CFO by training who founded Chaser; and James Griffin, a software engineer who was CTO at Idio (now Optimizely) and Rungway.

We’ve had a brilliant first two years. We’ve built an incredible initial team in the UK and Australia. We have amazing reviews from our customers. We won Xero’s Emerging App Partner of the Year Award for 2023. We’ve secured pre-seed investment from A* backers.

David has spoken extensively about our journey on his build-in-public blog, Starting Up Again. Our values (with the link to the relevant post explaining each) are:

The Role

We’ve experienced rapid recent growth and are excited to create this Founder Associate role. You will work alongside and report directly to David, our Co-Founder & CEO. This role is as broad as they come. It will encompass sales, account management, customer success, support, operations, partnerships, and some elements of product and marketing.

Specifically:

  • Delivering demos and sales meetings (predominantly via video call) to prospects (both in-house finance teams and accounting firms) and successfully converting them to paying customers;
  • Delivering account management, customer success and customer support to trialists and customers;
  • Taking ownership of operational projects as and when they arise. Examples might include: intellectual property protection, selecting and implementing an HR system and putting in place a spend management system;
  • Assisting with the development of partnership relationships, both with accounting softwares that we integrate with, and complementary solutions that serve the same target customer base;
  • We are rapidly developing our product offering. Your insights about what our customers need will be instrumental to our product roadmap decisions.

There will be a huge breadth of experience, exposure and responsibility. This will be an incredible career-shaping role for the right person. There is so much opportunity for where you take it as we grow.

About You

  • First-hand experience of the problems we solve is essential. You will have worked (likely qualified) as an accountant / finance person. You will be fluent in debits and credits. You will be enthusiastic about accounting as a discipline;
  • Hyper-organised. There will be so many moving parts to juggle in this role;
  • Excitement about sales. You don’t need to be any kind of sales pro, or even have done a sales role before. But the prospect of doing it needs to excite you, not elicit dread;
  • A great relationship builder;
  • Passionate about great product. You don’t need to be dreaming of a future in product management. But you are someone who is excited and curious about the possibilities of software products;
  • An insatiable proactive desire to learn and be challenged.

The Details

  • Salary will depend on experience. Given the accounting experience required for this role, we don’t anticipate paying less than £40k per annum;
  • Share options from day 1;
  • 25 days’ paid holiday, plus public holidays;
  • Personal learning and development budget;
  • 1 day a week in person in Central London (likely more during onboarding). We will provide co-working membership for the remaining days if needed.
