Community Lead (UK)
About Mayday
We're an accounting-tech startup building automation and AI to eliminate the tedious manual spreadsheet-based work that haunts in-house finance teams every single month. We serve the mid-market end of SMB: in-house finance teams of 2–10 people. Our mission is to mend month end and enable real-time accounting.
We recently passed £1m ARR and are growing fast after four years in market, doubling our revenue in 2025. We're in a phenomenal position as category leaders — evidenced by our strategic partnership with Xero and winning Xero's Global People's Choice Award, ahead of 1,200+ connected solutions. Our team spans the UK, Australia and South Africa, with the UK and Australia as our largest markets and North America now opened up as a growth focus.
We're founded by experienced entrepreneurs in David Tuck (ex-CFO and founder of Chaser) and James Scott-Griffin (former CTO at Idio/Optimizely and Rungway). Backed by elite investors, we've just raised a £3m seed round and are doubling the team to 24 as we accelerate the next phase of growth.
The Role
As Community Lead (UK), you'll be the heartbeat of CFO Techstack on the ground in the UK.
CFO Techstack is Mayday's community for in-house finance leaders building world-class tech stacks with Xero at the core. Since launching in 2023, it's grown to over 13,000 members and is the heart of a movement — finance teams scaling on Xero instead of defaulting to ERP.
What we've built in APAC — deep community relationships, flagship events, a thriving partner ecosystem — has become a major source of credibility and pipeline for Mayday. It is a true community-led growth engine. The foundations have been laid in the UK, but we need this role to take it to the next level.
Reporting into our Head of Community (based in Adelaide, Australia), you'll be responsible for building genuine relationships with our community, leading UK events, and ensuring the CFO Techstack experience feels real and valuable to members in your market. You'll work closely with our CEO, Head of Growth, Head of Content and Head of Design, as well as our UK and global partner network.
Given the timezone gap with your direct manager, you'll be comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy day-to-day.
What you'll be responsible for
Building and nurturing the UK community
- Build genuine, trusted relationships with UK finance leaders — not as a salesperson, but as a peer who understands their world
- Develop relationships with key ecosystem partners — apps, accounting firms, and other strategic collaborators
- Keep the community feeling alive, relevant, and peer-driven (not vendor-driven)
Running UK events (and supporting APAC)
- Coordinate and deliver the UK event calendar — from intimate roundtables to the flagship Stacked conference
- Support the coordination and logistics of APAC events where timezone allows
- Manage event logistics end-to-end: venue, speakers, run of show, post-event follow-through
- Work with the Head of Content and Head of Design to bring events to life in a way that's memorable
- Represent Mayday and CFO Techstack at third-party industry events where relevant
Managing UK app partners and FTS consultants
- Develop the FTS Consultant network in the UK — accounting firms and implementation specialists who sit alongside CFO Techstack, supporting businesses scaling on Xero
- Manage ecosystem app partner relationships with warmth and professionalism, ensuring partners feel valued rather than just listed
- Act as the bridge between community and commercial — working with the Head of Growth and Sales Lead to identify where CFO Techstack naturally generates pipeline, while protecting the community experience that makes it worth joining in the first place.
Contributing to the community product
- Provide on-the-ground UK insight into what members need, what's working, and what's not
- Feed into the App Map curation, newsletter content, and community initiatives as the person closest to UK members
- Collaborate with the global community team on initiatives that span markets
Supporting the commercial team
- Know Mayday's product inside and out — not so you can sell it, but so you can speak to it confidently when it matters
- From time to time, support the commercial team with demos, customer onboarding, or the odd support query (this isn't your main job, but we're a lean team and we value people who can flex when needed)
About You
- You have worked in finance or accounting; you understand the language, the pressures, and the mindset of our members because you've lived it. You understand the pain they feel when month end lags
- You've (likely) transitioned into accounting technology, either in a community, partnerships, events, or customer-facing role; and you've discovered that your real superpower is building relationships, not closing deals
- You're energised by community-building; you find genuine satisfaction in connecting people, facilitating great conversations, and helping others get value from what you've created
- You're a self-starter who's comfortable making sensible decisions without hand-holding (especially important given the timezone dynamic with your manager in Australia)
- You're warm, credible, and trusted. People feel heard when they talk to you (or read your writing), and you know how to hold a room (whether it's 10 people at a roundtable or 200 at a flagship event)
- You're organised and thorough; community work is relationship-heavy, but coordinating events, partners and content requires attention to detail
- You care deeply about being genuine; you'd rather build slow trust than chase a quick win, and can advocate strongly on behalf of the community
The Details
- Salary £40-70k depending on skills and experience;
- Share options from day 1
- 25 days' paid holiday, plus public holidays
- 1–2 days a week in person in Central London; co-working membership provided for remaining days if needed
- Opportunity to travel to Australia and attend Mayday's APAC events at least once a year
- The global nature of the team plus time differences mean that some degree of early morning or evening calls is unavoidable. We will make sure the weight of those is borne evenly between you and the relevant team members.
