How I Stacked It
Every finance stack tells a story. How I Stacked It looks inside the tools, workflows and decisions real finance leaders use to build better, more scalable finance teams.
Auror is a New Zealand-headquartered SaaS business behind a retail crime intelligence platform, with roughly 280 people across four entities in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the US.
Lucy Winterbourn, Finance Strategy Manager, is part of a 12-person finance team that closes month-end in only seven days. Lucy shared that the team doesn't just track that metric internally. They report it to the board as "time to insights", which frames the close as the thing that gets decision-makers timely information, not as an accounting chore.
The team shared their techstack with us earlier this year (here), but things have continued to evolve. They’ve recently taken home the title of Finance Team of the Year - at the 2026 Global CFO Techstack Awards - so there was no time like the present to share an update of their award-winning techstack.
Introducing Auror
The Stack

Xero for Core Accounting
Xero is the core accounting platform for Auror's day-to-day bookkeeping and financial records. Although they have not yet made a decision, they are considering adopting Syft, Xero’s reporting and consolidation platform.

Mayday for Month End
Mayday handles intercompany reconciliations and intercompany recharges across the group, work that used to live in spreadsheets. Since last time, the team has started using Mayday for prepayments. They are also using Mayday HQ for a chart of accounts project across the entities, and are currently testing Mayday’s new Accruals product.

Bob Finance for Consolidation
Bob Finance, formerly Mosaic, has handled consolidation, but it's being decommissioned. The team is actively evaluating replacements. Syft, now part of Xero, is one option under consideration, but nothing is decided yet.
Google Sheets for Reporting and Analysis
Google Sheets supports Auror's reporting and analysis work. Main reporting is via sheets, that pushes into Google Slides for stakeholders to review.

G-Accon for Reporting
G-Accon pulls data from Xero into Sheets. The setup is simple, flexible, and the team controls it end to end.

Salesforce for Sales and Revenue Forecasting
Salesforce still supports sales cycle management and revenue forecasting, and it's now the data source feeding commissions (see Qobra).

HiBob for Global HR & UK Payroll
The team have a multitude of payroll platforms, one for each major region, but HR is centralised in HiBob. This handles employee management across all four entities. It is also where the UK's payroll is processed.

iPayroll for New Zealand Payroll
iPayroll runs payroll for the New Zealand team and handles local compliance requirements.

Xero Payroll for Australian Payroll
Xero Payroll covers the Australian team and sits natively alongside Xero.

Justworks for US Payroll
Justworks manages US payroll, including multi-state compliance obligations.

Claude for AI Support
Claude is being used carefully. At month-end, the team uses it to improve compliance work papers. They also use it to cross-check that the commission outcomes in Qobra match their Excel models. Security restrictions are significant, and financial data can't be fed in freely, so the team is still working out where AI can be used responsibly.

Airwallex for Cards and Payments (NZ, AU, UK)
Airwallex provides corporate cards, expense reconciliation and cross-border payments for the New Zealand, Australian and UK teams. Card-freezing has recently been switched on.

Ramp for Spend Management (US)
Ramp covers US corporate cards, both virtual and physical, with spend limits and card-freezing. Why not consolidate onto Airwallex? Ramp was in the US first, the US team uses it and likes it, and there has been no reason to force a switch.

ApprovalMax for Approvals
ApprovalMax manages multi-layer approvals for both supplier and customer invoices across the group. There are no purchase orders, just approvals on the spend itself.

Cake Equity for Equity Management
Cake Equity manages Auror's cap table and employee equity plans. It runs standalone and needs no integrations.
