Key takeaways

🏆 Mayday has won Xero People’s Choice for the second year running, chosen by Xero users from more than 1,000 apps in the Xero App Store.

🚀 The win reflects how Mayday has evolved beyond intercompany, with Prepayments, Deferred Revenue, Flux and Accruals joining its multi-entity tools to help finance teams mend month end as a whole.

🤝 Mayday also won Practice App of the Year in New Zealand, recognising its growing role in helping accounting firms deliver outsourced finance and support clients through the Mayday Partner Programme.

We’re still pinching ourselves.

Mayday's been named People's Choice at the Xero Global App Awards for the second year running, as well as Practice App of the Year in New Zealand. We're also incredibly proud to have been finalists for Practice App of the Year in the UK, Australia and the US.

Out of more than 1,000 apps in the Xero App Store, Xero users around the world chose Mayday as their People's Choice for 2026. To say we're thrilled would be an understatement. Winning the People's Choice last year was one of the proudest moments in Mayday's history, and knowing that the people using Mayday had put us there was pretty hard to beat.

Turns out there was one thing that could beat it: winning it again.

Delight is our foremost core value at Mayday. To receive this recognition from the people who use Mayday day in and day out is pretty special. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for us and helped make this possible.

People's Choice. Two years running.

What makes winning People's Choice again so special isn't just that we've retained the award. It's what's changed in the year between the two wins.

When we won in 2025, Mayday was best known for intercompany. We'd set out to tackle some of the most painful parts of multi-entity month end and built Balancer, Recharger, BRAG and Mayday HQ to make work that'd traditionally been horribly manual much, much easier. Our first People's Choice win felt like a huge endorsement of that mission.

Lauren Harvey, Founding Director at Full Stop Accounts, knows first-hand what that looks like in practice:

“BRAG makes the best screen in Xero even better! It gives me, my team and clients the Match and Create functions we know and love from the Xero bank rec, but on a multi-entity level.”

But we haven't stood still. Over the past year, Mayday's grown beyond intercompany. With our core accounting suite, you no longer need to be a multi-entity finance team to benefit from Mayday. We're now tackling the month-end processes every finance team has to manage.

Prepayments and Deferred Revenue automate release schedules, Flux brings AI-powered variance commentary into month end, and Accruals tackles another of month end's most stubbornly manual workflows. Together with Balancer, Recharger, BRAG and Mayday HQ, Mayday now spans intercompany and core accounting, with all the headline jobs across month end now covered.

Martin Goodwin, Group Finance Manager at Open Box Software, is already seeing the difference with Flux:

“Flux is so quick for such a solid P&L overview, and the commenting just makes life so much easier.”

Since our Deferred Revenue and Prepayments engine, Recogniser, launched twelve months ago, it's tracked more than 270,000 release schedules and posted 12,000+ journals directly back into Xero. That's work that no longer lives in a spreadsheet.

That's why this year's win means something different. Last year, it felt like an endorsement of what we'd built for intercompany and multi-entity finance teams. This year, being chosen by the people using Mayday reflects how far we've come: from solving intercompany to tackling month end as a whole.

And there's another award to celebrate

As if retaining People's Choice wasn't enough, we're also coming home with Practice App of the Year. This one matters for a different reason.

The Mayday Partner Programme is designed to fit the way accounting firms work with their clients, whether they use Mayday to deliver services themselves or give their clients direct access. For firms delivering outsourced finance, our ambition is simple: Mayday should be the backbone of the outsourced finance function.

Chloe Sloane, Financial Manager at CreativeCFO, uses Mayday as part of the fractional finance services her team delivers to high-growth SMEs:

“Our mission is to build the world's best finance teams, and part of that is clearing the low-value grind out of the way so the high-value thinking has room to happen. Now it's a few clicks, and we've got the time back.”

Being recognised as Practice App of the Year is a huge vote of confidence in our ambition to help accounting firms and their clients mend month end.

Five years in, and plenty more to come

The timing of all this feels particularly special because Mayday turns five in September. We wouldn't be here without the customers and partners who've supported us along the way, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who's been part of those five years.

A lot has happened in that time. In 2023, we won Xero's Emerging App of the Year. In 2025, we were voted People's Choice. And now, as our fifth birthday approaches, we've retained People's Choice and added Practice App of the Year.

We've had the privilege of building Mayday alongside customers and partners who've given us ideas, challenged us to make it better and helped shape what it's become today. And People's Choice is exactly that: a choice made by people. To everyone who voted for us this year, thank you.
